ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - Cup of China 2021 cancelled

SYWTW FS

ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - Cup of China 2021 cancelled

The ISU was informed of the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China, that was scheduled to take place from November 4-7, 2021 in Chongqing (CHN).

Unfortunately, in view of the very limited international flights in all inbound cities in China and the relevant prevention restrictions in COVID-19, the concept of a "competition bubble" can not be realized. The ISU regrets that the hosting of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China is no longer viable and thanks the Chinese Figure Skating Association for their continued effort and support.

In order to maintain the 6 Events of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, leading to the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, which will take place in Osaka (JPN), on December 9-12, 2021, the ISU invited ISU Members who would be interested in hosting this event on the originally planned date (November 4-7, 2021), to apply for the event.

Further information will be provided in due course.

2021.08.12 News roundup

SYWTW FS

1) Challenger Series Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Bratislava, Slovakia has been cancelled, according to the ISU calendar.

2) Due to quarantine requirements from the French government, Russian skaters will not be able to participate in the first two Junior Grand Prix events in Courchevel, France. The ISU will reassign the Russian skaters’ quotas to other JGP events. [source]

3) ISU Communication 2418: Details regarding the reallocation of JGP spots due to difficulties skaters may have in traveling to host countries during the pandemic. Regarding the JGPF, “the Council finally concluded that it is impossible to implement a fair and consistent ISU Junior Grand Prix ranking for the 2021/22 season. [...] no ISU Junior Grand Prix ranking will be applied. Depending on the developments during the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, the ISU Council will evaluate if and how the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (scheduled to be held on December 9-12, 2021 in Japan), could be held by applying alternative qualification criteria.”
